    Overview

For many, sustainable purchasing requirements are the new norm. You may be receiving top-down instructions on sustainability goals, realizing the importance to your stakeholders, or trying to do what is right for your agency. This presentation will introduce attendees to the key steps in implementing a sustainable purchasing plan, including an introduction to sustainable procurement benefits, guidelines, and the “triple bottom line.” A tool to help procurement professionals achieve environmental goals, sustainability can ensure that purchasers make the best economic decisions while supporting the community they serve. Using specific examples within public procurement, attendees will receive an introduction to sustainable purchasing, learn how to identify sustainable products, and be prepared to utilize sustainable purchasing as an opportunity, rather than an obligation. Go from 101 to pro with this crash course in sustainable purchasing!

    Objectives

After completing this online training session, learners will be able to:

    1. Understand the market drivers for sustainable purchasing and determine which sustainability attributes can best serve your organization.
    2. Identify and evaluate the sustainability attributes of all types of products, compare products, and be able to recognize "greenwashing" claims.
    3. Apply this understanding to the development of a sustainable purchasing program, with the knowledge of how sustainability can help organizations to meet their triple bottom line.
